The Journey Begins with a Conversation

Every new student starts with a complimentary interview. This is a relaxed opportunity for families to meet Mary, tour the studio, and ask any questions you might have. We’ll discuss musical goals and see if our studio is the right artistic home for your family.

Children

Children typically begin lessons around age six, although younger children are welcome to inquire. During the complimentary interview, Mary will help determine whether your child is ready to begin lessons.

Young beginners often start with the Wunderkeys method, where stories, games, and engaging activities build strong musical foundations while making learning fun. Lessons are thoughtfully tailored to each child's age, interests, goals, and learning style, helping students grow in confidence while developing a lifelong love of music.

Teens

As students grow, lessons grow with them. Teens are encouraged to take an active role in shaping their musical journey by exploring the styles they enjoy, setting personal goals, and developing the confidence to become independent musicians.

Whether learning a favorite song, preparing for a recital, exploring composition, or discovering new genres of music, lessons are shaped around each student's interests and aspirations while continuing to build strong musicianship, creativity, and confidence.

Adults

Whether you're learning piano for the first time or returning after years away, lessons are shaped around your individual goals, interests, and musical preferences. Adult students are encouraged to help guide the direction of their lessons while learning at a comfortable pace in a welcoming, supportive environment.

Lessons are typically held every other week and are designed to fit your schedule while helping you build confidence, strengthen your musical skills, and enjoy playing the music you love.

Tuition & Lesson Lengths

30-minute lessons are $30.

Longer lesson lengths are available for advancing students. During your complimentary interview, Mary will help determine the lesson length that's the best fit for your goals.

Flex-Day Makeups

Life is busy, and sometimes things come up. Mary offers a flexible makeup system designed to fit into modern family schedules, helping students stay consistent even when a week gets complicated.

What Happens During Lessons?

Every lesson is thoughtfully tailored to the individual student, with activities chosen to match their age, experience, interests, and musical goals. Lessons include a balanced approach to repertoire, technique, theory, creativity, ear training, and goal-oriented activities that help students grow with confidence.

Young students build strong foundations through stories, games, and engaging hands-on activities, while older students explore a variety of musical styles, composition, and the music they most enjoy playing.

Whether preparing for a recital, learning a favorite song, or working toward a personal goal, every lesson is designed to help students develop confidence, strong musicianship, and a lifelong love of music.

"Mary is an organized and talented piano teacher who has a gift for choosing music that fits each student’s interests and personality. When I moved, she creatively transitioned my lessons to Zoom so I could continue learning. She is kind and encouraging while holding her students to a high standard. I highly recommend Soft Pedal Piano Studio!"
